First-principles calculations of anatase structured TiO2 and ZrO2 as well as of TiO2-B were carried up to 20 GPa in order to develop an understanding of the unusual compression and pressure-dependent phase transitions reported for nanocrystalline (nc) pure and Zr-doped anatase and nc TiO2-B. The computations, carried out using two global hybrid density functional-Hartree-Fock formulations and a...

Cubic boron nitride (cBN) particles coated with 20 wt% nanocrystalline TiN were prepared by coating the surface of cBN particles with TiO2, followed by nitridation with NH3 gas at 900 degrees C. Coating of TiO2 on cBN powders was accomplished by a sol-gel process from a solution of titanium (IV) isopropoxide and anhydrous ethanol. An amorphous TiO(x) layer of 50 nm thickness was homogenously fo...

There are many practical difficulties in direct adsorption of polymers onto nanocrystalline inorganic oxide surface such as Al2O3 and TiO2 mainly due to the insolubility of polymers in solvents or polymer agglomeration during adsorption process. As an alternative approach to the direct polymer adsorption, we propose surface-bound polymerization of pre-adsorbed monomers. 6-(3-Thienyl)hexanoic ac...

Flexible Dye-sensitized solar cells were assembled using flexible transparent electrodes as substrates, nanocrystalline TiO2, an electrolyte based on I3/I, dye molecules and a counter electrode. In this study has been employed natural pomegranate juice for sensitization of nanocrystalline TiO2 and gold layer as counter electrode was prepared by sputtering method on conducting substrates polymer...

Nanocomposite of Ag/TiO2 and nanocrystalline TiO2 were prepared by using TiCl4 as a precursor in a simple sol-gel process. The prepared photo-catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron micrographs (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray microanalysis (EDX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). A complete and effective photocat...

During the last 10 years, with the development of nanocrystalline films of very high surface area, the photosensitization of wide-bandgap semiconductors, such as TiO2, by adsorbed dyes has become more realistic for solar-cell applications. In a porous film consisting of nanometer-sized TiO2 particles, the effective surface area can be enhanced 1000-fold, thus making light absorption efficient e...

In this paper the influence of material composition on the structural, surface and optical properties of HfO2-TiO2 mixed oxide coatings was investigated and discussed. Five sets of thin films were deposited using reactive magnetron sputtering: HfO2, TiO2 and three sets of mixed HfO2-TiO2 coatings with various titanium content. The change in the material composition had a significant influence o...

We describe a novel titanium phthalocyanine that shows no aggregation when anchored to nanocrystalline TiO2 films through its axial carboxylated ligand without the use of co-adsorbents; state selective electron injection into the TiO2 is demonstrated, resulting in efficient photocurrent generation in dye sensitised photoelectrochemical solar cells.

A mixture of graphene oxide (GO) and TiO2 nanocomposites was reduced photocatalytically by UV-irradiation and applied as interfacial layer between a fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) layer and a nanocrystalline TiO2 film. Impedance spectra implied a decreased back-transport reaction of electrons. The graphene–TiO2 interfacial layer effectively reduced the contact between I 3 ions in the electrolyt...
